Fun With Safety in Mind

Fun With Safety in Mind

Enjoying winter sliding at Les Glissades du Domaine des Pays d’en Haut is nothing like sledding at your local park. Here, the slopes are professionally designed, the speed adds to the thrill, and each winter the experience draws hundreds of thousands of sliders. To make sure the fun lasts from start to finish, safety on the slopes is a top priority, no matter your age or experience level.

With a well-supervised environment and a few good habits, everything is in place for you to enjoy your day to the fullest.

Mountain Code of Conduct

Les Glissades du Domaine des Pays d’en Haut is committed to providing a safe environment for everyone. However, every rider has a role to play. Following the Mountain Code of Conduct, on-site signage, and specific rules for winter sliding is essential.

This code is designed to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all riders. Before your first descent, take a moment to review it. Our team members are on-site throughout the day to help ensure the rules are followed and to assist you whenever needed.

Good Behaviour on the Slopes

A safe descent begins before you start.
   • Always wait for the attendant’s signal before going or for the barriers to open.
   • Make sure the slope is clear.
   • Slide while seated, facing forward, following the specific instructions for each sector.
   • Always respect the minimum and maximum number of sliders.
   • Never stand up or walk on the slope.
   • Upon arrival, leave the area quickly to make room for others. Do not cross the slopes; walk to the end!

Choosing a Slope Suitable for Your Level

On your first outing, excitement can sometimes make you overestimate your abilities. It is recommended to start with smaller slopes and gradually increase the difficulty.

Children must be supervised at all times and accompanied according to the rules of the sector. Going at your own pace is also a way to slide longer… and more safely.

Wearing a Helmet and Essential Equipment

Being properly equipped is essential to ensure safety and comfort throughout the day.

A helmet is one of the most important pieces of equipment. It protects the head in the event of a fall or collision. Although it is not mandatory on all slopes, wearing one is strongly recommended. It must fit properly: neither too tight nor too loose. At our rental counter, our advisors are there to help you.

Please note: On the Bobsleigh–Vortex360 sector, wearing a helmet is mandatory and one is provided free of charge.

Appropriate winter clothing is just as important: a warm jacket, snow pants, a hat, gloves, and ski goggles help you stay warm, dry, and free to move. Thermal socks and, above all, winter boots are essential to avoid the cold, falls, and injuries. Sneakers and shoes not designed for winter conditions should be avoided. Also remember to close your pockets securely and remove any rigid or sharp objects that could cause discomfort or injury during the descent.

Signage and On-Site Facilities

Every year, we invest in improving safety on the site. Signage is reviewed and adjusted to make the slider’s route clear and safe.
You will find:
   • Safety barriers for opening and closing slopes, controlled by an attendant.
   • Safety signs before entering the slopes.
   • Pictograms, particularly at the Tubing sector, illustrating safe sliding practices.
   • Indicators showing the maximum number of sliders allowed on each slope.

Sliding Conditions: Weather and Snow Conditions

Before heading out, it is important to check the weather forecast and sliding conditions. Extreme cold, wind, or precipitation can affect your comfort and safety on the slopes.

Snow conditions also change throughout the day depending on temperature and traffic. Adapting your sliding style to the conditions is part of good safety habits.

Information regarding the opening of slopes and lifts is updated regularly. Temporary closures may occur due to conditions deemed unsafe. It is important to respect these notices for your safety and that of other sliders.

Taking Breaks: Listening to Your Body

Sliding is a physical activity, and cold weather often increases fatigue. Taking regular breaks helps you stay alert, warm up, hydrate, and fully enjoy the day without increasing the risk of falls.

Sliding Is Also About Sharing

Les Glissades is a place of fun, freedom, and sharing. Learning good practices from a young age contributes to a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Les Glissades du Domaine des Pays d’en Haut team is committed to ensuring that sliders have fun safely all day long.
